Women’s Major League Soccer (WMLS.us) has named Samir Yasa as League Referee Supervisor, the league announced today.
The 39-year-old Yasa is highly-regarded in the world of women’s soccer, and his appointment comes less than two months after he was named President of the Indiana Referees Association. Yasa made his referee debut in 1997 and has taken charge of a host of high-profile college and professional matches. The appointment marks the end of a watershed year for Yasa, who is regarded as women’s soccer top official.
“Samir was the outstanding candidate for the role,” FC Indiana GM/Coach Shek Borkowski, who headed the nominations committee, said in a statement on the WMLS website. “He combines strong leadership skills with tremendous insight and knowledge of soccer.”
