Brazilian Olympic Committee elects 2010 best athletes

Fabiana Murer, champion of the IAAF Diamond League, and the attacker Murilo Endres, three-time world volleyball champion elected the best Brazilian athletes in 2010

In a ceremony carried out by the Brazilian Olympic Committee (BOC)
this Monday (December 20), in Rio de Janeiro, the pole vault jumper
Fabiana Murer, champion of the IAAF Diamond League, and the attacker
Murilo Endres, three-time world volleyball champion, were elected the
best Brazilian athletes in 2010.  In front of about 2 thousand guests,
in its 12th edition, the Brazil Olympic Award also recognized the best
athletes in 47 disciplines, as well as the best coaches (Elson Miranda
- athletics, and Bernardinho - men’s volleyball) and the best
paralympic athletes (Edênia Garcia and Daniel Dias - swimming and the
coach Romolo Lazaretti - cycling).  The Adhemar Ferreira da Silva
trophy was awarded to the former boxer Eder Jofre, for the 50th
anniversary of his first world title.  Mr. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva,
president of the Republic, attended the ceremony and received from
Carlos Arthur Nuzman, BOC president, a special homage for his support
to sports during his eight years of government.  Homage was also paid
to Sergio Cabral and Eduardo Paes, respectively Governor of the State
of Rio de Janeiro and Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, and Orlando Silva,
Ministry of Sports.
