This weekend, on 18 and 19 December 2010, La Clusaz, the proposed venue for the cross-country skiing and Nordic combined events in the Annecy 2018 bid, organised a fantastic stage of the cross-country skiing world cup. At the same time, the women's competitions took pride of place at the 55th Critérium de la Première neige took place in Val d'Isère with the Super-G and Combined events.

With an outstanding record for organizing large scale sports events and a favourite among cross-country skiing fans, La Clusaz provided a memorable weekend for skiers from around the world, at one of the Winter World Cup circuit's most technical stages.  At the heart of the Annecy 2018 playing field, this weekend's optimum racing conditions once again proved that the Savoie Mont Blanc region is ready to host major international sports events.

"La Clusaz never fails to charm with its typical alpine architecture at the heart of the mountains and its internationally renowned slopes.  Winter sports athletes are always delighted to compete in this welcoming environment, on nature's playing field", reveals Antoine Dénériaz, Olympic downhill champion and Annecy 2018 Sports Ambassador, who was in La Clusaz on Sunday 19th December to enjoy the event and cheer on all the skiers. "Competitors know they can always count on racing conditions in Savoie Mont Blanc."

This weekend's events were pulled off with the same success as the start of the season in La Plagne, Val d'Isère and Meribel. With cross-country skiing in La Clusaz, another event has been added to this season's World Cup repertoire, after alpine and freestyle skiing. Such a wide range of events is one of the Annecy 2018 bid's strengths, enabling all visitors to live out a unique experience in the heart of the French Alps.
