Annecy adapts its international setup for the home straight

Edgar Grospiron, CEO of Annecy 2018, currently on a visit to South Africa, has confirmed Guy Drut and Jean-Claude Killy's support for the French bid to host the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Game

Edgar Grospiron, CEO of Annecy 2018, currently on a visit to South Africa, has confirmed Guy Drut and Jean-Claude Killy's support for the French bid to host the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This statement comes in response to an article published in French sports daily L'Equipe on Sunday 5th December.

Christian Monteil, Chairman of the Annecy 2018 Supervisory Board and President of the Haute-Savoie General Council, and all the members of the Supervisory Board (the Government's representative, the President of the French National Olympic Committee (CNOSF), the President of the Rhône-Alpes Region, the Mayor of Annecy) have reaffirmed their confidence in the project, highlighting the progress made during the past months: "Last June, the International Olympic Committee asked Annecy to present a more compact organisation. Three months later, with the unfailing support of all concerned, Annecy 2018 presented a new, ultra-compact concept organised around the two main bases, Annecy and Chamonix Mont-Blanc. This concept is fully in line with the IOC's demands, and was welcomed at the majors’ international presentations. Annecy 2018 has thus demonstrated its ability to adapt quickly in response to the IOC's remarks, with the ultimate aim of submitting the best offer to host the 2018 Winter Games.

In a month's time, on 11th January 2011, Annecy 2018 will submit its bid book to the IOC, along with guarantees issued by the State, all the local authorities and economic stakeholders. In February, Annecy will welcome the IOC Evaluation Commission. The bid is therefore about to move into a new phase of its project's international promotion.

To prepare for this new phase, the supervisory board has taken stock of the progress still to be made in terms of its international promotion efforts, which began at the Vancouver Olympics. Fully aware of the level of demand on the international stage, the Bid Committee has already put together a new organisation, designed to strengthen this international promotion, calling upon the necessary financial and human resources, in absolute compliance with Annecy 2018's declared values."

The Bid Committee and the French IOC members will meet in a week's time to study this new organisation and move forward into the home straight for a final win, together, on 6th July 2011 in Durban.
