PEACE AND SPORT'S GIANT STEP TOWARDS INTERNATIONAL EXPANSION
The organization expands to USA and China
Monaco, 2 December, 2010 - "Peace and Sport, l’Organisation pour la Paix par le Sport” under the High Patronage of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, is entering into a phase of international expansion by opening its first two subsidiary offices in the United States and in China.
"Peace and Sport USA" will be based in New York and "Peace and Sport China" will be based in Beijing . These offices will bring proximity to decision-makers in sport, politics, the private sector and civil society with whom Peace and Sport works on a daily basis. The organization needs this close cooperation to deploy its activities for peace-building and peace-promotion through sport in areas of post-conflict, extreme poverty or lack of social cohesion.
The two new entities will operate as regional strategic bases. Peace and Sport USA will broaden action across the American continent (North and South America) and Peace and Sport China will drive operations throughout Asia .
Only four years after the organization was founded, this dual international expansion represents a momentous evolution for Peace and Sport, whose headquarters is located in the Principality of Monaco. It will enable the promotion of sport as an instrument for peace and social stability in new territories and facilitate the use of sport to reconcile divided communities by attracting new actors for peace and sport.
Joël Bouzou, President and Founder of Peace and Sport, explains: "Setting up Peace and Sport in the United States and China answers to a double logic and a pragmatic analysis. Firstly, we want to operate as closely as possible to the ground to ensure that we respect the social and cultural environments where we intervene. Secondly, it is important to us that decision-makers today and tomorrow, those who have an influence on the broad direction of our world, fully realize the tremendous potential of sport as a tool to contribute to sustainable peace. Many decision-makers in today’s world are based in the United States and China. Our neutral status allows us to set up offices in these locations to boost our work in education and awareness-raising. I am delighted about this major development and very grateful to the partners who are supporting us in this new era.”
To achieve its goals, Peace and Sport will associate with leading partners in each country.
In the United States , Peace and Sport will work closely with the "JACK BREWER FOUNDATION" to carry out its activities. Founded by the American football player of the same name, the Jack Brewer Foundation strives to “Empower From Within” through self-sustaining initiatives, offering educational opportunities and economic development in partnership with underprivileged people around the world.
In China , Peace and Sport’s partner is the "Chinese World Peace Foundation" founded by Dr. Li Wang Yeunk. Known as a "mini-United Nations” the CWPF hosts numerous cultural and sports projects to promote peace, dialogue and harmony in the world.
The announcement concerning the launch of "Peace and Sport USA" and "Peace and Sport China" came during the 4th Peace and Sport International Forum, which is being held in Monaco from 1 - 3 December.
