FIFA Women's World Cup Germany 2011™

Official Poster unveiled

The Official Poster of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011™ was unveiled today at the pre-official draw press conference by FIFA Executive Committee member and chairman of the FIFA Committee for Women’s Football and the FIFA Women’s World Cup™ Worawi Makudi, FIFA Head of Women’s Competitions Tatjana Haenni, and Local Organising Committee President Steffi Jones.

Football fans all over the world were given the opportunity to vote for their favourite of five posters in a competition hosted on FIFA.com between 28 October and 2 November. The innovative winning design, featuring a dynamic portrayal of a female football player, was designed by Berlin-based communication agency WE DO.

“The poster adds a key visual identity to the tournament as excitement builds ahead of the event,” said FIFA Marketing Director Thierry Weil. “We are looking forward to seeing the poster, along with our other brand visuals, decorating the host cities in the summer of 2011.”

“The poster is a unique symbol that truly conveys the attributes of women’s football and the FIFA Women’s World Cup: passion, elegance and excitement. Together with the official emblem and slogan, the poster plays a key role in forming the identity of the event on the road to 2011,” said Steffi Jones.

The design is made up of thousands of small footballs creating the image of a female football player, a homage to the Official Poster for the 2006 FIFA World Cup™, where the main visual was a football created by thousands of bright stars.

“With this poster our design team has successfully captured the diversity, dynamic and athleticism of women’s football,” said WE DO creative director Thomas Avenhaus. “The slight movement of the balls gives the design an almost three-dimensional illusion.”
