Football legend David Ginola backs the Annecy 2018 bid

Former French international footballer David Ginola added his support to Annecy's bid to host the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games

Former French international footballer David Ginola added his support to Annecy's bid to host the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games when he met up with Edgar Grospiron, Olympic Champion and CEO of Annecy 2018, in London on Tuesday 23rd November.

An iconic figure in international football, David Ginola provides heavyweight support for the Annecy 2018 Olympic bid. A brilliant striker, David Ginola was voted French best player in the French Championships in 1993/1994 and English football's player's player of the year in 1999. Dubbed "El Magnifico" by the Spanish press, David Ginola first came to prominence on the international scene playing for French club Paris Saint-Germain, and then for English clubs Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur.

"It's a great pleasure for me, and quite naturally too, to add my support to France's bid for the 2018 Winter Games, especially in a region I know so well. Annecy and its surrounding area provide a tremendous playing field for winter sports! The landscape is fabulous and every year I don't miss a opportunity to test my skills out the region's legendary ski runs… I'm delighted to be able to give my support to Edgar Grospiron and his entire team of champions and athletes", explained David Ginola.

"The support of a football legend like David Ginola is priceless for our bid. In addition to his stature as a former international sportsman, David is also a natural ambassador for Annecy 2018, as both a connoisseur of our region and a winter sports enthusiast with a true passion for skiing! More than 500 champions have now voiced their backing for our bid, and emblematic figures like David Ginola provide yet another illustration of the immense wave of support from the sports world behind Annecy 2018", added Edgar Grospiron, Olympic Champion and CEO of Annecy 2018.
