The event took place at the Aspire Park in Doha where the T-shirt was displayed and measured by the judges of the Guinness Book World of Records who verified and confirmed that the previous world had been broken. This is the latest manifestation of support for Qatar to be awarded hosting rights for the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
On this occasion, Dr. Mohd Yousef Al-Mulla, GM and board member of QAPCO expressed his excitement that QAPCO has broken the record of making the world’s biggest T-Shirt, and that the name of QAPCO will be recorded in the Guinness World records. This initiative came as a result of the support of His Excellency Abdulla Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Deputy Premier and Minster of Energy & Industry who clearly defines that our motif behind such an initiative is only to voice our unlimited support in the Energy & Industry Sector for Qatar 2022 to host the World Cup here.
“It is our great honor to be part of this historic event, and we feel it is our national duty under the wise guidance and Leadership of His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, The Emir of the State of Qatar, to show all support and enthusiasm for the bid, and it is exciting for us all to see the passion that everyone has for Qatar, which reflects people’s real love and loyalty to their home country.”, he said.
Dr. Al-Mulla, added that a World Cup in Qatar would “allow the opportunity for the rest of the world to gain a better understanding not only of Qatar, but of the Middle East and for people in the region, as well, to learn from the different cultures that would be represented in Qatar during the event, and it an opportunity to unite the world through sport.”
Hassan Al Thawadi - CEO of Qatar 2022 Bid - said: “on behalf of Qatar 2022 Bid I would like to express my gratitude to QAPCO and its employees, I am overwhelmed and today’s event shows how important everyone’s support is in our quest to bring the World Cup to the Middle East for the first time.” He then added: “The World Cup is more than a sporting event; it is a tournament that brings many benefits. A football World Cup in Qatar would have a very positive effect for Qatar and the entire region. “
Qatar aims to bring the World Cup to the Middle East for the first time in the history of the tournament. FIFA’s Executive Committee will vote on the locations of the 2018 and 2022 World Cup Finals on December 2, 2010, in Zurich, Switzerland.
