This new title adds to Maureen Nisima's already impressive record, with 2 world team titles in 2008 and 2008. The champion, already a figurehead in the fencing world, adds her name to the list of sports champions backing Annecy's bid for 2018.

"The chance to take part in international competitions in France is a tremendous opportunity in any French athlete's career. Winning this gold medal at the Grand Palais in Paris, with the entire public behind me… was truly exceptional. Having gone through such an experience, I can only wish the same for every French athlete, winning an international competition in front of their home crowd and in such a magical setting. That's why I've decided to add my support to Annecy 2018, a bid which has all it takes for unique Olympic and Paralympic Games, where sportswomen and men from France and across the world will be able to demonstrate their talents to the full", says Maureen Nisima.

"Driven on by the thrill of a major sporting event and, without any doubt, by the unfailing support of the public, Maureen put in an extraordinary performance in the magical surroundings of the Grand Palais, to carry off her first individual world title. Her support once again shows how the Annecy 2018 project is backed by sportswomen and men who want to play their part in helping France organise major international competitions and, in particular, the greatest one of all, the Olympic and Paralympic Games", adds Florence Masnada, double Olympic medallist in Alpine Skiing and Annecy 2018's Ambassador to the sporting world.

Maureen Nisima's Achievements:
World Champion in 2010
Double bronze medallist at the 2004 Olympics in Athens (individual and team events)
Double world team champion (2005 and 2008)
Bronze medallist at the 2007 World Championships in Saint Petersburg
Silver medallist in the team event at the 2006 World Championships in Turin
European Champion in 2002

Annecy 2018 is placing athletes at the heart of its project, gathering mass support from 500 champions from all disciplines, summer and winter sports alike, who have already signed the Commitment Charter supporting the bid.

Annecy is a candidate to host the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2018. The International Olympic Committee will announce its decision on 6 July 2011 during the 123rd Session of the IOC in Durban, South Africa.
