Denmark Keeps Up Sporting Momentum

Following the success of the Danish Year of Sport in 2009, Sport Event Denmark, long-time Gold Sponsor of the SportAccord Convention, recently concluded agreements that will bring a list of new international events to the country.


The Danish portfolio for the next few years includes such great and prestigious events as UCI Road Cycling World Championships 2011 and the WCF (not ICF) World Women's Curling Championships 2011 and the UEFA European Under 21 Championship 2011. Other events recently awarded the European Table Tennis Championships 2012, the Men’s European Volleyball Championships 2013, the Men’s European Handball Championships 2014 and the FEI Jumping and Dressage European Championships 2013. Sport Event Denmark will again be a Gold Sponsor for the 2011 SportAccord Convention in London.

Chief Executive Lars Lundov of Sport Event Denmark says: "Many nations/cities throughout the world bid for major international sports events in an attempt to later win the hosting of the Olympic Games. However, Denmark has no current ambitions to become an Olympic Games host. Instead, Denmark has great ambitions to stage several of the other prestigious sports events on the international sporting calendar. We strongly believe that the hosting of such events is beneficial, not only to the Danish sports community but also to the Danish society on the whole. And, not to forget, we strongly believe that Sports Events Made in Denmark is a guarantee for successful events, delivered in accordance with the right owners' interests and requirements.”

The Danish Year of Sport was awarded a silver medal at the International Sport Events Management Awards 2010 at the start of November.
