Korean Ski Association hosts children's Ski Jumping Camp to develop new generation of winter sports athletes

The four-day camp was supported by the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Bid

PYEONGCHANG, SOUTH KOREA, 8 OCTOBER 2010: The Korean Ski Association this week hosted 100 young winter athletes at the 2010 'I am a Ski Jumper' camp as part of its strategy to promote the winter sport to younger generations.

The four-day camp, supported by the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Bid, involved several fundamentals of ski jumping including basic skills development, landing techniques, and a number of practice jumps with participants also taking part in a number of recreation classes throughout the duration of the camp.

The final day of the camp also provided an opportunity for students to meet members of the Korean national ski jump team, who performed a series of jumps for the young athletes.

The 2010 'I am a Ski Jumper' Camp was sponsored by Sports Toto and the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation (KSPO) as part of their campaign to promote and broaden the fan base of ski jumping and develop new talent within the sport.

The camp was held at PyeongChang's Alpensia Resort. The Alpensia Resort is a key component of PyeongChang 2018's Games Plan and would be the location of the Olympic Village and several competition venues. The Alpensia Resort ski jumping stadium would also be used as the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies if PyeongChang is selected as the 2018 Host City.

Yang Ho Cho, Chairman and CEO of the PyeongChang 2018 Bid Committee, said: "The 2010 'I am a Ski Jumper' camp has provided an excellent opportunity for young athletes to learn and develop their skills under expert guidance. Expanding the interest and participation in winter sports activities is one of the core values of PyeongChang's 2018 bid and we will host a number of similar events in the coming months to help spread the Olympic spirit and develop winter sports throughout Asia."
