PyeongChang helps to improve Bobsleigh and Skeleton in Mongolia

The Korean Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation held a bobsleigh and skeleton training camp August 21-26

PYEONGCHANG, SOUTH KOREA, 27 August 2010: South Korean Bobsleigh and Skeleton athletes yesterday completed a six day training session in PyeongChang which also provided a unique opportunity for a group of young winter sports enthusiasts from Mongolia to learn about these winter sports and improve their performance.

The governing body in Mongolia approached members of The International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (FIBT) requesting support to help their young athletes gain experience in Bobsleigh and Skeleton events.

The Korean Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation responded to this request and invited Mongolian athletes to their bobsleigh and skeleton training camp held from 21 to 26 August 2010 in PyeongChang, marking the first time that the Mongolian athletes experienced Bobsleigh and Skeleton equipment and courses.

Kwang-bae Kang, Team Korea Bobsleigh Coach and PyeongChang 2018 Sports Director, said: "We are proud to offer these young athletes from Mongolia the opportunity to train and improve their performances with our world class facilities. This is an illustration of PyeongChang's commitment to foster the growth of winter sports across Asia, and in so doing, contribute to the goals of the Olympic Movement. We plan to invite more aspiring Asian athletes to training camps like this in PyeongChang to encourage greater winter sports participation."

Onol, Mongolia's Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation Secretary General, said: "This has been a unique experience for our delegation and we leave Korea with valuable knowledge about how to develop this sport at home and train a strong team. If PyeongChang is selected to host the 2018 Games, we will ensure we have a team ready to compete with the world's greatest athletes."
