FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
80,000 people expected to attend Europe's leading cultural event for young audience in Le Grand Bornand
Annecy 2018 is bidding for the 2018 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The resort of Le Grand Bornand, the venue proposed to host the biathlon in the Annecy 2018 bid, is preparing to receive 80,000 visitors between the 22nd and the 27th August 2010 for the 19th edition of "Au Bonheur des Mômes", an international street performance festival dedicated to young audience. Held near the city of Annecy, this unique cultural event exemplifies the richness and enthusiasm of the territory, which hopes to host the 2018 Winter Olympic Games and thus treat the whole world to a spectacular event in the heart of the French Alps.
"Having youth and culture at the heart of the world's largest winter sports event is one of the priorities of the Annecy 2018 bid," explains Edgar Grospiron, Olympic Champion and CEO of Annecy 2018. "This festival has the same aspirations as Annecy 2018: to offer youngsters a variety of originaly fresh and use-friendly cultural activities, making the youth the center of the event."
Created in 1992, this innovative festival has become Europe's leading cultural event for children. This year's event will include 350 live performances (plays, contemporary circus shows, storytelling, dancing, puppet shows, mime acts, clowns, concerts, etc.) performed by 90 different companies from France, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Holland and the United Kingdom.
A true intergenerational event, Au Bonheur des Mômes can be enjoyed by people of all ages, from tiny tots (3 months and over) to great-grandparents (99 years). During the 6 days of festivities, the village of Le Grand Bornand, in the heart of the Aravis mountain range, will be dotted with 20 stages, 8 exhibitions and 20 workshops. With its carefully thought-out artistic programme, the festival will give visitors the chance to get sneak previews of performances and to watch this year's new shows.
The workshops organised for the event put children firmly in the driving seat of the festival, while a selection of exhibitions and stalls focus on teaching youngsters about the environment and other social matters. In order to make the event as accessible as possible, half of the entertainment activities are free of charge.
