PyeongChang 2018 Announces Secretary General for International Relations

Yang Chun Park has also served as an Ambassador for Korea.

PYEONGCHANG, SOUTH KOREA, 13 AUGUST 2010: The PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Bid Committee today announced the appointment of Yang Chun Park as Secretary General for International Relations.
Yang Chun Park, currently also Chairman of the Korean Olympic Committee (KOC) International Relations Commission, is a former diplomat who has served in various regions throughout his career including as Korean Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union.
As the newly appointed as Secretary General for International Relations, Park will use his vast international experience and knowledge to direct and coordinate the Bid Committee's international activities and participate in various sporting events and conventions to promote PyeongChang's bid to the world's sports community.
Yang Chun Park said: "I am delighted to join the PyeongChang 2018 Bid Committee with this important responsibility.  I am committed to communicating to the global sports community our will and enthusiasm, as well as the level of investment and preparation we've already achieved. I believe this bid has something very special to offer the Olympic Movement."

Yang Ho Cho, Chairman and CEO of the PyeongChang 2018 Bid Committee, said: "We are very pleased to have Mr. Park join PyeongChang 2018's efforts.  His expertise and insight will be a real asset for the Bid Committee and he will be playing a crucial role in communicating PyeongChang's bid to the international sports community."

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The city of PyeongChang in Gangwon Province, South Korea is bidding to host the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in 2018. The city's bid is managed by the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Bid Committee, a non-profit organisation that was established on 14 September 2009. The Chairman and CEO of the Bid Committee is Yang Ho Cho, who is also Chairman of Korean Air. Additional members of the PyeongChang 2018 Bid Committee include representatives from all levels of national and local government, the Korean Olympic Committee (KOC), the Korean Paralympic Committee (KPC), winter sports athletes and para-athletes, and private businesses. The election of the Host City of the XXIII Olympic Winter Games will take place during the 123rd International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in Durban, South Africa on 6 July 2011.
