South Korea National Assembly Members Express Full Support For PyeongChang 2018

The bid has strong government and public support

PYEONGCHANG, SOUTH KOREA, 11 AUGUST 2010: Members of the South Korea National Assembly from areas within Gangwon Province have declared their unwavering support for PyeongChang’s bid to host the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

The members met together on Tuesday 10th August and discussed how the National Assembly can support the bid efforts with regards to preparations for the IOC Evaluation Commission visit in 2011 and building venue/transportation infrastructures.  The discussion placed much focus on the early construction of the double-tracked express railroad between Wonju and Gangneung via PyeongChang due to be completed in 2017, which will act as an integral part of PyeongChang 2018’s transportation scheme.

Mr. Yeon Hee Choi, National Assemblyman, chairing the meeting, said “The Korean people have wanted to bring the Olympic Winter Games to PyeongChang for a long time, and PyeongChang has invested a huge amount of time, effort and real investment into bid preparations.  Like the Government, the National Assembly is ready to provide full and strong support for PyeongChang’s bid to host the 2018 Games.”

Yang Ho Cho, Chairman and CEO of the PyeongChang 2018 Bid Committee, said: “We thank the National Assembly members representing Gangwon Province for taking the time to gather together and discuss the bid.  The National Assembly has always been very supportive of our bid, already declaring the ‘Resolution of Support for Hosting the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games’ in June.  We are very pleased that there is absolute commitment for our bid and the new infrastructure being built at all levels of government.”
