PyeongChang 2018 launches new website

New site highlights new ‘New Horizons’ and communicates PyeongChang’s unique vision for the Games.


PYEONGCHANG, SOUTH KOREA, 10 AUGUST 2010: The PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Bid Committee today officially launched its new website: http://www.pyeongchang2018.org

The new website, accessible in Korean, English and French, features the new bid campaign slogan ‘New Horizons’ and communicates PyeongChang’s unique vision for hosting the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games - highlighting how the Winter Games in Korea will help to grow interest in winter sports internationally and connect the Olympic Movement with millions of young people across Asia.

Yang Ho Cho, Chairman and CEO of PyeongChang 2018, said: “As we build momentum through the Candidate City phase of the bid campaign, we want to share our vision and show PyeongChang’s commitment, dedication and passion for hosting great Olympic Winter Games in 2018.

“We are pleased to launch our new website today and to showcase our New Horizons campaign theme, which we will bring to life in the months ahead, as we seek to demonstrate how this bid offers exciting new opportunities for Olympic Winter Sports across our region and amongst the next generation.”

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The city of PyeongChang in Gangwon Province, South Korea is bidding to host the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in 2018. The city’s bid is managed by the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Bid Committee, a non-profit organisation that was established on 14 September 2009. The Chairman and CEO of the Bid Committee is Yang Ho Cho, who is also Chairman of Korean Air. Additional members of the PyeongChang 2018 Bid Committee include representatives from all levels of national and local government, the Korean Olympic Committee (KOC), the Korean Paralympic Committee (KPC), winter sports athletes and para-athletes, and private businesses. The election of the Host City of the XXIII Olympic Winter Games will take place during the 123rd International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in Durban, South Africa on 6 July 2011.
