Beyond marathons: ASICS to be Broadcast Sponsor of European Athletics Championships in Barcelona

ASICS becomes Eurosport's premium athletics and marathons sponsoring partner until 2012

Hoofddorp, July 28 - As part of a three-year partnership linking the No.1 name in performance sport to Eurosport, ASICS will be the premium broadcast sponsor for the European Athletics Championships in Barcelona (July 26 - August 1).

The multimedia branding campaign, announced in April 2010, has already been successfully activated around the world's major marathons, including Tokyo, Paris, London and Seoul, which were broadcast on the channel.

The next wave of activity, leading up to 2012, will focus on more key marathons and athletic events, especially the top athletics action of this summer: the European Athletics Championships in Barcelona.

Eurosport will bring 100% HD coverage of the European championships, totalling 85 hours of broadcast, with over 50 hours live. 

Following a successful sponsoring campaign around Eurosport's coverage of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, ASICS and Eurosport have taken their cooperation to a higher level. For the next three years, ASICS becomes Eurosport’s premium sponsoring partner with the focus on world famous marathons and key athletic events. 

ASICS will benefit from Europe's leading sports-entertainment group's expertise with: sponsorship of Eurosport's extensive multimedia coverage, spot campaigns, tailor-made editorial programmes and an online campaign.

In 2010, the media campaign running until November includes a dedicated multi-language microsite,, featuring a special online photo competition aimed at runners, which is hosted across Eurosport’s network of 11 websites in 10 languages.

Visitors to site submitted a photo that represented their idea of running, their key ‘Sound Mind, Sound Body’ moment. The winner, the participant who received the most votes for his running image, has received the first prize of a roundtrip for 2 people to Barcelona, including VIP tickets for the European Championships and a Meet & Greet with Olympic marathon gold medallist Constantina Dita.

ASICS’ partnership with Eurosport around Athletics is hugely beneficial as both companies share the same values and passions for sport. ASICS is the market leader in performance running, so by leveraging the power of the Eurosport multimedia platform, ASICS will be able to increase its brand awareness even further, but also to reach, and engage with, the brand’s key consumer - marathon runners all around the world.
