Women's Football: Borkowski leaves Zvezda

Shek Borkowski has called time on a nine-month reign in charge of Russian champions Zvezda-2005.

Shek Borkowski, the former FC Indiana coach left Zvezda 2005 after citing irreconcilable differences' with Zvezda president Genadiy Shilov.
A short club statement said: 'The club has reluctantly accepted Shek Borkowski’s resignation. It has been agreed that neither party will make any further statement.'
It is understood that Zvezda players were informed of the 47 year-old's departure at training on Thursday afternoon.

The relation between Borkowski and Shilov reached new lows in April after Borkowski publicly criticized Shilov’s refusal to sign any Russian players for the 2010 season.
At the time, Borkowski said it was inexplicable to him why the club refused to add new players to his injury ravaged squad which lost Nadia Baranova, Natalia Zinchenko, Natalia Barbashina, Elena Suslova, Lena Mosebo, Iffy Chiejine, Busi and eventually Valentina Savchenkova.
In addition there were frictions over the role recently afforded to Natalia Zinchenko as Borkowski’s assistant, a move which was opposed by Borkowski, who believed it undermined his authority.
Sources familiar with the situation indicated that in a final meeting with Shilov’s representatives, which took place last Wednesday evening, Borkowski was furious with Zvezda’s reluctance to sign a replacement for injured Savchenkova.
“We have played our matches with one or no substitutes, that is not acceptable. I was recruited to produce good results, but I can say that I have not been given good working conditions. Consequently, I have decided to move on.”  Borkowski said.

Borkowski's predecessor at Zvezda 2005, Aleksandr Grigorian, resigned from his post in May 2009 following a strain in relations with Zvezda’s management which culminated with Grigorian filing a complaint to the Russian Football Union over unpaid bonuses.
