LaserPerformance North America will host the inaugural LaserPerformance World Open at Sail Newport in Newport, Rhode Island on June 26th – 27th, 2010.On the same weekend, LaserPerformance Europe will also host their leg of the LaserPerformance World Open
(Portsmouth, RI- June 18th, 2010) - LaserPerformance North America will host the inaugural LaserPerformance World Open at Sail Newport in Newport, Rhode Island on June 26th - 27th, 2010. The event will bring together the Laser, Laser Radial and Sunfish classes for a weekend of competitive racing. The Bug class will enjoy “fun races”, suitable for less experience sailors as well as budding youth sailors. All in all, a weekend of activity both afloat and ashore aimed at delivering fun Fun FUN!
On the same weekend, LaserPerformance Europe will also host their leg of the LaserPerformance World Open from the SailLaser Weymouth facility and Portland National Sailing Academy, the racing venue for the 2012 Olympic Games. Racing will be enjoyed by the Laser, Laser Vago, Laser Bahia and Laser 2000, with fun races also set for the Bug and Laser Pico’s.
With less than two weeks until the event, entries remain open and anybody considering an entry is encouraged to confirm their entry sooner rather than later! LaserPerformance and Sail Newport have a number of Bugs available for charter, so even if you’re not a boat owner, there are plenty of opportunities to get afloat and get involved, no need to be a landlubber!
The New England Sunfish fleet is expected turn out in big numbers for this event with upwards of 15-20 boats expected to attend. Combined with 10 or so Long Island Sunfish sailors expected to make the trip to Newport should help make this year’s World Open one of the most competitive regattas this summer.
Entry fees start from as little as $70.00 and include two days racing, harbor dues, facility fees, two dinners, two nights of drinks and entertainment, awards, and an event t-shirt, it’s great value for money! Competitors will enjoy an Italian style dinner on Saturday evening, along with music and dancing to the tunes of DJ Bo Williams! It’s going to be quite a party, so to be part of the action, get your entry in!

When racing at the LaserPerformance World Open finishes on Sunday 27th June (on both sides of the Atlantic!) there will be an overall LaserPerformance World Open Champion using a scoring matrix that takes into account the size of your fleet and your finishes in your fleet.
