Compound Round introduced at Antalya World Cup

The event will take place from 7-11 June with the finals live on Turkish television on 10-11 June.

After the introduction of the set system, mixed team event and the Longines Prize of Precision at the Porec World Cup in May, the Antalya stage will premiere the Compound Round.

The Compound Round means that:

- The compound athletes will shoot 72 arrows in qualifications at 50 metres. The target face is 42cm wide and has scoring zones from 10 to 6 points only.
- In the matches, the athletes will shoot at 50 metres at a Hit/Miss target face. The hit zone is only 10cm wide. The individual athletes will shoot sets of three arrows. The archer with the most hits wins the set. Each set is worth two points (if the set is tied, each archer gets one point). The athlete with the most set points wins the match.
- In team matches, the three archers will shoot one arrow per set each.
- In mixed team matches, the sets have four arrows. Each archer shoots two arrows.

The recurve athletes will shoot at the traditional target face at 70 metres like in Porec. They will shot sets of three arrows during individual matches. They will shoot the traditional 24 or 16 arrows for respectively team matches and mixed team matches. Let's see now the favourites who come to Antalya.

Recurve Men
The fans will see if the results of Antalya confirm the new hierarchy established in Porec, which was the first World Cup stage with sets. Fifteen of the top 16 archers in Porec are announced in Antalya. Listed from the ranking order: Brady ELLISON and Victor WUNDERLE (USA), the silver medallist at the 2009 World Cup Final Simon TERRY (GBR), Jean Charles VALLADONT (FRA), Baljinima and Biligto TSYREMPILOV (RUS), Franck FISSEUX (FRA), Chu Sian CHENG (MAS), Luis Eduardo VELEZ SANCHEZ (MEX), Anton PRILEPAU (BLR), the 2004 Olympic champion and 2009 winner of the World Cup Final Marco GALIAZZO (ITA), the recent European Championships bronze medallist Makiyan IVASHKO (UKR), and the terrific trio from India Rahul BANERJEE, Tarundeep RAI and Mangal Singh CHAMPIA. One shall also notice the presence of the European gold and silver medallists, Romain GIROUILLE (FRA) and Michele FRANGILLI (ITA), and the return of the 2004 Olympic bronze winner Tim CUDDIHY (AUS).

Recurve Women
The best hope for the Turkish hosts lays in this category with the recent bronze medallist at the European Championships two weeks ago in Rovereto, Begunhan Elif UNSAL. The other favourites include the usual Natalia VALEEVA (ITA), Berengere SCHUH (FRA), Justyna MOSPINEK (POL), Victoriya KOVAL (UKR), Dola BANERJEE (IND), Nami HAYAKAWA (JPN) and the 2009 world bronze medallist Natalia SANCHEZ (COL). One will watch if some athletes show confirmation of recent good results, such as Inna STEPANOVA (RUS), Elena KUZNETSOVA (BLR), Guo FAPING (CHN), Mariana AVITIA (MEX) and Rimil BURUILY (IND). Vanessa LEE (CAN) will also compete in Antalya. She won the Olympic contest last year on You Tube with her video on the subject: "What do you think the future of the Olympic Games will be". She was invited to the Olympic Congress in Copenhagen.

Compound Men
The man with four World Cup victories—one silver in Porec and one silver in Rovereto—will be there, Sergio PAGNI (ITA)! The European bronze medallist and FITA Round world record holder as well, Peter ELZINGA (NED)! As usual, a bunch of very talented archers take the trip to Antalya from the four corners of the world, including Patrick COGHLAN (AUS), Martin DAMSBO (DEN), Braden GELLENTHIEN (USA), Stephen CLIFTON (NZL), Jose DUO (ESP), Dietmar TRILLUS (CAN), Patrizio HOFER (SUI), Vladas SIGAUSKAS (LTU) and Dominique GENET (FRA), winner in Antalya last year. How will they adapt to the Compound Round?

Compound Women
By winning the European championships, Viktoria BALZHANOVA (RUS) gave one more confirmation that Russia and the USA dominate this category with the likes of world champion Albina LOGINOVA (RUS), Jamie VAN NATTA and Erika ANSCHUTZ (USA). The rest of the world wants nevertheless to break the hegemony notably the athletes who climbed on the podium in Porec Ashley WALLACE (CAN), Nicky HUNT (GBR) and Sandrine VANDIONANT (FRA). The fans also count with Camilla SOEMOD (DEN), Ivana BUDEN (CRO), Eugenia SALVI (ITA), Irina MARKOVIC (NED), Olga BOSCH and Luzmary GUEDEZ (VEN).

La Ronde des Poulies fait son apparition à Antalya

Après l’introduction du format de sets, de l'épreuve officielle en double mixte et du Prix Longines de la Précision à la Coupe du Monde de Porec en mai, l’étape d’Antalya montrera en première mondiale la Ronde des Poulies.

La Ronde des Poulies implique:

- Les athlètes en arc à poulies tirent 72 flèches à 50 mètres en qualifications sur un blason de 42 cm et des zones de points de 10-6 seulement.
- En match, les athlètes tirent à 50 mètres sur une cible Hit/Miss. La zone hit a seulement 10 cm de diamètre. Les archers tirent trois flèches par set en individuel. Celui qui a le plus de hits gagne le set. Un set vaut deux points (un point chacun en cas d’égalité). L’athlète avec le plus de points gagne le match.
- Pour les matchs par équipe, les trois archers tirent chacun une flèche par set.
- En double mixte, les sets ont quatre flèches. Chaque archer tire deux flèches.

En arc classique, les athlètes vont tirer sur les cibles traditionnelles à 70 mètres. En match individuel, ils tireront avec le format de set, comme à Porec. Ils joueront aussi les matchs traditionnels de 24 ou 16 flèches, respectivement pour les matchs par équipe et double mixte. Classique Hommes
Les fans pourront voir si la nouvelle hiérarchie établie à Porec tient. Quinze des 16 premiers archers à Porec sont annoncés à Antalya. Classique Femmes
Le meilleur espoir des hôtes turcs se trouvent dans cette catégorie avec la fraîchement médaillée de bronze aux Européens de Rovereto, Begunhan Elif UNSAL. Les autres favorites sont très connues comme Natalia VALEEVA (ITA), Berengere SCHUH (FRA), Justyna MOSPINEK (POL), Victoriya KOVAL (UKR), Dola BANERJEE (IND), Nami HAYAKAWA (JPN) et la médaillée de bronze des Mondiaux de 2009, Natalia SANCHEZ (COL). Les experts seront attentifs si certaines athlètes confirment leurs récentes bonnes performances: Inna STEPANOVA (RUS), Elena KUZNETSOVA (BLR), Guo FAPING (CHN), Mariana AVITIA (MEX) et Rimil BURUILY (IND). Vanessa LEE (CAN) concourra aussi à Antalya. L’année passée, elle avait gagné un concours olympique sur You Tube avec une vidéo sur le sujet: "Comment voyez-vous le futur des Jeux Olympiques?" Elle avait été invitée au Congrès Olympique de Copenhague.

Poulies Hommes
L’homme aux quatre victoires en Coupe du Monde, de l’argent à Porec et Rovereto cette année, sera là: Sergio PAGNI (ITA)! Le médaillé de bronze des championnats d’Europe et le détenteur du record du monde pour l'Epreuve FITA également: Peter ELZINGA (NED)! Comme d’habitude, beaucoup d’athlètes talentueux viendront à Antalya des quatre coins du monde: Patrick COGHLAN (AUS), Martin DAMSBO (DEN), Braden GELLENTHIEN (USA), Stephen CLIFTON (NZL), Jose DUO (ESP), Dietmar TRILLUS (CAN), Patrizio HOFER (SUI), Vladas SIGAUSKAS (LTU) et le vainqueur de l’année passée Dominique GENET (FRA). Comment s’adapteront-ils à la Ronde des Poulies.

Poulies Femmes
En gagnant les championnats d’Europe, Viktoria BALZHANOVA (RUS) a donné une nouvelle confirmation que cette discipline est dominée par la Russie et les Etats-Unis avec, notamment, la championne du monde Albina LOGINOVA (RUS), ainsi que Jamie VAN NATTA et Erika ANSCHUTZ (USA). Le reste du monde arrive cependant à briser l’hégémonie, comme lors du podium de Porec, trusté par Ashley WALLACE (CAN), Nicky HUNT (GBR) et Sandrine VANDIONANT (FRA).
