Jets Sign LB Jason Taylor
The New York Jets have signed unrestricted free agent LB Jason Taylor. The announcement was made by Jets General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.
Taylor (LB/6-6/255/Akron/Pittsburgh, PA), a 13-year NFL veteran, has started 193-of-201 games and recorded 127.5 sacks, nine defensive returns for touchdowns, 45 forced fumbles, 27 fumble recoveries, eight interceptions and 814 tackles. His sack total ranks him first among active players and 11th all-time in NFL history, while his nine touchdowns are the most by a defensive lineman in NFL history.
In 2009, Taylor tied for second on the Dolphins with seven sacks and also recorded 42 tackles, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery for a touchdown, one interception and five passes defensed. His touchdown occurred on a 48-yard fumble return against the Jets on November 1. Selected in the third round of the 1997 draft, Taylor earned six Pro Bowl appearances (2000, 02, 04-07) and was named the 2006 AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year. He was also named Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year in 2007 for his community service.
