NBC OLYMPICS MOBILE PLATFORMS SURGE
More Than 58 Million Page Views and 1.4 Million Mobile Videos Streamed in First 11 Days
Frequency of Use is High Among Mobile Visitors
VANCOUVER - February 23, 2010 - Through the first 11 days, NBC Olympics Mobile platforms (mobile site and iTunes App) have generated 58.2 million page views, which is a 68 percent increase over the entire 17-day page view total for the Beijing Games (34.7 million). Additionally, users have streamed over 1.4 million videos on their mobile devices, more than four times the 17-day total for Beijing (301,000). By the time the Opening Ceremony broadcast started at 7:30pm ET on February 12th, NBC Olympics Mobile had already generated more page views than the entire 2006 Winter Games (1 million).
A mobile research survey conducted during the first ten days of the Games indicated a number of consumer use findings:
· Frequency of use for the mobile platforms is high with over one third of visitors to-date having visited the site more than six times.
· Home is the most common location for users accessing the mobile site and/or app (67 percent), while some typically visit while on the go (34 percent) or while at work (24 percent).
· Top reasons for visiting the mobile site/app are quick/easy updates, wanting to check something while watching television or not having access to television. Half of mobile site users have used the site while watching the Olympics on TV.
· Nearly a quarter of mobile platform visitors report watching more Olympics coverage on television because of the mobile site and over half said they are more involved with the Games because of the site/app.
· NBC Olympics Mobile platforms could increase mobile Internet use overall - 29 percent of visitors say they will access the mobile Internet more frequently after the Olympics than they did before the Games.
