USA Men’s Ice Hockey Quarterfinal Game in Daytime

VANCOUVER - February 23, 2010 - NBC’s Wednesday primetime coverage of the Vancouver Olympic Winter Games begins tomorrow at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Team USA has won eight of the 18 alpine skiing medals this Olympics. USA’s Lindsey Vonn and Julia Mancuso own half of those eight and look to take home gold in the women’s giant slalom in primetime. Vonn will go for her second gold medal of this Olympics and Mancuso will defend her gold in this event from Torino. USA’s Apolo Ohno, the most decorated U.S. Winter Olympian in history after earning his seventh medal in the 1000m on Saturday, skates live in the men’s short track 500m competition. Live coverage also includes the women’s aerials gold medal final, women’s bobsled gold medal final and women’s short track 3000m relay gold medal final. Primetime wraps up with the men’s cross-country 4x10km relay gold medal final. All four men’s ice hockey quarterfinals are on NBC and CNBC on Day 13. Team USA, Russia, Finland and Sweden have all advanced to the quarterfinal round and are awaiting their match-ups after today’s competition.

NBC LATENIGHT:
Late night is highlighted by the women’s speed skating 5000m gold medal final and women’s short track 1000m competition. Also, coverage of medals plaza and the award ceremonies.

Women’s Freestyle Skiing: Aerials Gold Medal Final - China is poised to once again rule the skies in women’s aerials, LIVE. One of the sports pioneers, Australia’s Jacqui Cooper, will look to win an elusive Olympic medal in her final Olympics at age 37. Team USA’s top contender is Massachusetts native Emily Cook.
Women’s Alpine Skiing: Giant Slalom Gold Medal Final - Alpine star Lindsey Vonn (St. Paul, Minn.), who has won two medals already this Olympics, turns to the challenging technical events in her fourth race of the Games. Her teammate, Julia Mancuso, who also has earned two medals at these Games, won gold in this event in 2006.
Women’s Bobsled: Gold Medal Final - 32-year old Shauna Rohbock (Orem, Utah) piloted her sled to silver in 2006. LIVE tonight, the Army National Guard specialist has her sights on gold on the world’s newest, fastest track - the treacherous Whistler course.
Men’s Short Track: 500m Competition - Short track superstar Apolo Ohno (Seattle, Wash.) skates in his sports’ most unpredictable individual event, the all-out, anything-goes sprint that is the 500m, to secure a spot in Friday’s Gold Medal Final.
Men’s Cross-Country: Relay Gold Medal Final - This classic cross-country event has produced some of the most thrilling races in Olympic history in any sport, including three in recent years decided by less than one second after hours of racing. Traditional powers Norway - anchored by its latest superstar, the brash Petter Northug - and Italy should once again be among the favorites. But keep an eye on the Canadians - a host-country dark horse that could be poised for a popular medal surge on the picturesque Whistler course.

Men’s Ice Hockey: Quarterfinal- LIVE coverage of the playoff round continues as Team USA has the first seed and will face the winner of Switzerland and Belarus. A spot in the semifinals is at stake - winner advances, loser is out of medal contention.

Women’s Speed Skating: 5000m - At 37-years old, Canada’s Clara Hughes is the only athlete to win multiple medals in both the Summer and Winter Games. She was a double bronze medalist in cycling at the Atlanta 1996 Games, and won medals in this event at the last two Games - bronze in Salt Lake and gold in Torino. She has a good chance to win another medal in her final Games in front of the home nation’s fans.
Women’s Short Track: Women’s 1000m Competition - 21-year-old Katherine Reutter (Champaign, Ill.), competes in the 1000m, her favorite event, looking to secure a spot in the Gold Medal Final later in the week.

Men’s Nordic Combined: K125 Large Hill Individual Gold Medal Final - Three member’s of Team USA - world champions Bill Demong (Vermontville, N.Y.), Todd Lodwick (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) and Johnny Spillane (Steamboat Springs, Colo.), who won Team USA's first ever Olympic Nordic combined medal, when he won silver in the Individual K95 event last week, could threaten for gold in this event.
