Ken Achenbach, Canadian Snowboard Hall of Famer, Available for Interviews in Whistler to Talk about "Camp of Champions," the Half-Pipe Event, Past Campers & Coaches (Shaun White, Louie Vito and more).

In Person Interview Opportunity in Whistler, or Phoners, with the man who brought snowboarding to Canada!

WHO: Whistler’s Ken Achenbach, founder and director of Camp of Champions summer snowboard, ski and mountain bike camp (http://www.campofchampions.com) is one of the original instigators of the snowboarding curse that now afflicts mountains worldwide. He started the first exclusive snowboarding store in the world, “The Snoboard Shop” in 1980, and campaigned tirelessly to get snowboarding accepted in Canada and other countries. He placed 2nd in the World Championships in half pipe in 1982. Achenbach was the Canadian Champion from 1982-1989. The Snoboard Shop Pro Team was a powerhouse team from the ‘80s through the mid ‘90s, winning World Championships and National titles. Ken’s Snoboard Shop team was the Canadian Team before there was one. Achenbach was inducted into the Snowboard Hall of Fame in 2001.

WHAT: Whether you are 13 or 31, the Camp of Champions (COC) snowboard, ski and mountain bike camp at Whistler Blackcomb offers enthusiasts the opportunity of a lifetime - the chance to train with the pros and spend a summer in the snow. Past campers include Shaun White (at age 6!). Louie Vito (not only a US team member but also from Dancing with the Stars) has been a coach and will coach again this summer! All of the 2006 Men’s Half-Pipe medalists trained at Camp of Champions. Shaun White (Gold) was a camper at age 6!; Danny Kass (Silver) was a camper; Markku Koski(Bronze) was a coach.  Other Olympians include Markus Keller (Coach); Crispin Lipscomb (Camper); Shannon Dunn (Camper) and more. The private Camp of Champions terrain park is designed and maintained by one of the world’s leading terrain park designers, Steve Petrie of Arena Snowparks.  A master in his craft, the International Olympic Committee chose Petrie to build the half pipe for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

WHERE: Whistler, BC.  Locations can be chosen by crew or reporter. Achenbach’s house looks out over Blackcomb Mountain slopes. Or interview can be done on a gondola. Other opportunities available as well.
