HOT TOPICS AT THE HEART OF THE DEBATE AT THE SECOND EDITION OF THE GLOBAL SPORTS FORUM BARCELONA

For two-and-a-half days, the Global Sports Forum Barcelona will bring together athletes, business leaders, heads of large media groups, politicians, representatives of institutions and directors of foundations and NGOs. Together, they will debate the real challenges facing sport in modern society.

This major international sporting congress, designed to serve as a platform of exchange, will take place between 8 and 10 March 2010 at the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya in Barcelona.

Hot topics essential to the future…

At the close of the first edition, which welcomed more than 1,000 people from all over the world, eight major themes were agreed upon for 2010: sport & education, sport business, sport & geopolitics, sport, philanthropy & cooperation, major sporting events, sport in the city, sport and health, sport, culture and creativity.

These areas, around which the 2010 programme was devised, will be addressed by focusing on four major challenges that lay at the heart of current debates and are destined to remain central preoccupations within society:

- The digital age: the use of new technologies, new media and social networking, and their impact on sports consumption habits.

- The new world map of sports: the hosting of major sporting events in developing countries and the impact on the politics of those countries, the new South-South dimension at the heart of sport, potential new regulations in the sporting world, and the place of emerging nations within sporting institutions.

- Youth integration: the role of sport in the education of young people as future citizens and athletes, sport as a social bridge between generations the world over, and extreme sports and sports video games as alternatives to traditional sport.

- Sustainable development: the importance to the sporting world of environmental problems and social issues such as social integration, ways of making sport more sustainable, and awareness of the issue of sustainability within the realms of public policy and sports sponsorship.

These major focal points will be the subject of several sessions, including:

- The south as the new frontier of sport ;

- After copenhagen, the essential need for sport to go green ;

- Sport as force for social equality ;

- Major sporting events : from bid to legacy ;

- Sport as a force for good : a challenge for all stakeholders ;

- Sport in the digital age : consumers taking control ;

- Reaching out to youth : the future of sport.

...presented by high-quality speakers.
