Tampa Chosen for USA Bid for FIFA World Cup

Along with Tampa Bay, 17 other cities throughout the United States will be included in the USA Bid Book, which will be submitted to FIFA on May 14, 2010.
“We could not be more excited to be a part of the USA Bid Committee’s efforts to bring the World Cup back to the United States,” said Tampa Bay Bid Committee Chairman Chuck Sykes. “This was truly a team effort and would not have been possible without the support of the Tampa Bay community.”
Members of the Tampa Bay Bid Committee for the 2018/2022 FIFA World Cup™, along with vital community partners, have worked tirelessly over the past several months in their efforts to bring this prestigious event to Tampa Bay.
“Over the past several months we have seen members of the Tampa Bay community, business partners, soccer fans, citizens, visitors and many others come together for one single effort - to bring the World Cup to Tampa Bay,” said Farrukh Quraishi, vice chair of the Tampa Bay Bid Committee.
“While we should celebrate this success, we must remember that this is just the beginning and we still have a lot of work to do,” said President and CEO of Tampa Bay &Company Paul Catoe. “As a community, we must continue to show our support and dedication as the USA Bid Committee moves forward with its efforts to bring the World Cup to the United States in 2018 or 2022.”
