HRH PRINCE FEISAL NOMINATED TO BECOME IOC MEMBER
Since being elected President of the JOC in 2003, HRH Prince Feisal has championed the power of sport to make a difference.
Amman, Jordan: His Royal Highness Prince Feisal Al Hussein, President of the Jordan Olympic Committee and Chairman of Generations For Peace, has been nominated to become a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
HRH Prince Feisal was one of six new members proposed by the IOC’s Executive Board during their Lausanne meeting with the final vote to be taken by the IOC General Assembly next February in Vancouver.
Since being elected President of the JOC in 2003, HRH Prince Feisal has championed the power of sport to make a difference. In recognition of his work promoting gender equality, HRH Prince Feisal was invited to become a member of the IOC Women and Sport Commission in 2007 and successfully hosted the IOC World Conference on Women and Sport a year later.
Internally he has streamlined sports administration and has encouraged professionalism both on and off the sporting fields.
However, it is his own initiative Generations For Peace which has caught the global eye by using sports as a means to bringing conflicting communities together.
Since its 2007 inception, hundreds of leaders of youth from 31 countries have been trained, resulting in up to 40,000 youngsters reaching out across the divide to embrace previous adversaries in the name of sport. The global initiative is currently hosting its fifth international camp in Amman Jordan.
There are currently 112 IOC members but four are set to retire by the end of the year. The proposed six new additions would take the total membership to 114.
