FIFA and WADA pledge mutual respect and trust

Both Presidents reinforced their strong commitment to fight doping through all existing means.

FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter and WADA     President John Fahey met at the Home of FIFA in Zurich today (29     October 2009) to discuss the joint fight of the two organisations against     doping worldwide. Both Presidents reinforced their strong commitment to     fight doping through all existing     means.

“The atmosphere throughout the meeting was     one of mutual recognition, respect and trust,” said Joseph S.     Blatter.

“We     had a fruitful meeting today. WADA is looking forward to further     partnering with FIFA to advance the fight against doping through a number     of initiatives,”     commented John Fahey. “FIFA has an extensive     anti-doping programme that is compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code,”     he added.

In addition to that research, initiatives     were discussed that FIFA and WADA will take on in partnership, including a     joint research project on the development of a biological passport in     football.

Also present at the meeting were Jérôme     Valcke, FIFA’s Secretary General, David Howman, WADA’s Director General,     Dr Michel D’Hooghe, chairman of the FIFA Medical Committee, Prof. Jiri     Dvorak, FIFA’s Chief Medical Officer, Marco Villiger, FIFA’s Director of     Legal Affairs and Volker Hesse, Head of FIFA’s Anti-Doping     Unit.
