MADRID “ HAS WHAT IT TAKES ” TO WIN IN COPENHAGEN

Everyone will be made to feel like Madrid is their home.

29 September Madrid has got what it takes to win the crucial vote in Copenhagen this week on which city will host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2016 according to its bid chief Mercedes Coghen.

“I believe the Games in Madrid will be both safe and fun – a perfect combination of advanced infrastructure, financial security and the Mediterranean passion for enjoyment,” said Mercedes Coghen in Copenhagen, “ Madrid is ready to welcome the world with a smile.

“Our bid received a huge boost this week when half a million people filled the centre of Madrid to show their support for our delegation in Copenhagen which is led by the King of Spain, Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, The Mayor of Madrid Alberto Ruiz Gallardon and a host of Spanish sporting celebrities.

“This is the third time Madrid has bid for Games and we believe we are more prepared than ever before with the transport infrastructure 100% ready and 77% per cent of the venues built or under construction.

“Out technical bid is better but perhaps our biggest advantage is the people of Madrid themselves – their support is overwhelming and I believe their passion can influence the voting on Friday.

“It is easy to see how an Olympics in Madrid will be fun for everyone and that everyone, of any age, nationality or social background will be made to feel like Madrid is their home so they can enjoy our culture in safe streets day or night.  That is why we say we are the Games With The Human Touch. ” she said.

The full Spanish delegation arrives in Madrid tomorrow as the final preparations are made for the presentation to the International Olympic Committee on Friday.
