NBC SPORTS WINS 3 PRIMETIME EMMY AWARDS
Opening Ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games Wins For Outstanding Special Class Program
NBC’s Coverage of the Beijing Olympic Games Takes Home a Total of Nine Emmy Awards
NEW YORK – Sept. 13, 2009 – NBC Sports takes home three
Primetime Emmy Awards for its coverage of the Opening Ceremony of the
2008 Beijing Olympic Games; the winners were announced yesterday by the
Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in Los Angeles. The Primetime
Emmy wins are in addition to the 11 Sports Emmy Awards, six for the
network’s coverage of the Beijing Games, awarded April 27, the most of
any network.
NBC Sports’ coverage of the Opening Ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games took home Primetime Emmy Awards for:
· Outstanding Special Class Program
· Outstanding Directing For A Variety, Music Or Comedy Special
Bucky Gunts, Director
· Outstanding Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video Control For A Miniseries, Movie Or Special
NBC’s coverage of the 2008 Beijing Summer Games won Sports Emmy Awards in the following categories (Awarded April 27):
· Outstanding Live Event Turnaround
· Outstanding Technical Team Remote
· Outstanding New Approaches in Sports Event Coverage - NBCOlympics.com
· Outstanding Sports Personality - Studio Host (Bob Costas)
· Outstanding Camera Work – The Clock of Their Lives
· Outstanding Editing – Remember the Titans
In addition to the Olympics, NBC Sports won Sports Emmy Awards in the following categories (Awarded April 27):
· Outstanding Live Sports Series - “NBC Sunday Night Football”
· Outstanding Live Sports Special - 108th U.S. Open Championship
· Outstanding Sports Personality – Sports Event Analyst - Cris Collinsworth
· Outstanding Sports Promotional Announcement: Episodic – 2009 Winter Classic
As part of the Sports Emmy Awards ceremony held April 27, Dick Ebersol,
Chairman, NBC Universal Sports & Olympics, was honored with this
year’s Lifetime Achievement Award. He is a winner of 30 Sports Emmy
Awards and has previously received the National Academy of Television
Arts & Sciences Trustees Award.
Ebersol was presented the award in a moving ceremony by Muhammad Ali
and the six leaders of American Sport: David Stern, Commissioner of the
National Basketball Association; Bud Selig, Commissioner of Major
League Baseball; Tim Finchem, Commissioner of the PGA TOUR; Gary
Bettman, Commissioner of the National Hockey League; Brian France, CEO
and Chairman of NASCAR; and Roger Goodell, NFL Commissioner.
