WOODS, MICKELSON LEAD FIELD AS NBC SPORTS BROADCASTS COVERAGE OF BMW CHAMPIONSHIP

NBC Presenting 3 of 4 Events in PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedEx Cup

NEW YORK – September 10, 2009 – Tiger Woods (No. 2 in FedEx Cup standings), Phil Mickelson (No. 12) and Steve Stricker (No. 1) headline a field of 70 competing in the BMW Championship from Cog Hill Golf & Country Club in Lemont, Ill., the third of four events in the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedEx Cup. NBC Sports presents live coverage Saturday from 3-6 p.m. ET and Sunday from 2-6 p.m. ET. NBCSports.com, in partnership with PGATour.com, will offer additional coverage including highlights of every round during the rest of the playoffs.

NBC Sports is presenting three of the four playoff events – culminating Sept. 26-27 with the final 30 players competing for THE TOUR Championship in Atlanta and the crowning of the third FedEx Cup champion. Tiger Woods was the inaugural champion while Vijay Singh won last year.

Host Dan Hicks and analyst Johnny Miller, in their 10th season together as NBC Sports’ lead golf commentators, anchor NBC’s coverage from the 18th-hole tower. Hicks and Miller are joined by tower reporters Gary Koch and Bob Murphy; on-course reporters Roger Maltbie, Mark Rolfing and Dottie Pepper; and interviewer/essayist Jimmy Roberts. NBC’s coverage is produced by Tommy Roy, one of the most nominated persons in the history of the Sports Emmys.

MALTBIE ON COG HILL: “It’s long and tough and favors the big hitters – i.e. Tiger. This course is hard enough to host an Open and I think it will get an Open.”

MALTBIE ON TIGER: “Anyone who has played golf has gone through a stretch where they can’t make a putt – even Tiger. It’s the worst feeling in the world. Tiger feels good about his game and after that 63 where he started making some putts, I think his mindset is in a real good place.”

PLAYOFFS FOR THE FEDEX CUP: The annual FedEx Cup champion is determined by points accumulated through the regular season and, following a points reset based on final regular season standings, performance in the four tournaments that comprise the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedEx Cup. The Playoff events, in sequence, are the Barclays Classic in Jersey City, N.J. (won by Heath Slocum), Deutsche Bank Championship near Boston (won by Stricker), BMW Championship near Chicago and THE TOUR Championship in Atlanta.

PGA TOUR PLAYOFFS FOR FEDEX CUP POINTS:
1. Steve Stricker, 5,605
