USOC Statement Regarding IOC Evaluation Commission Report on 2016 Bid Cities

USOC is pleased that the IOC confirms Chicago's readiness.

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. – “The U.S. Olympic Committee joins the Chicago 2016 bid committee today in extending its gratitude and congratulations to the International Olympic Committee Evaluation Commission for its thorough report, and for the invaluable feedback it has provided.

“The USOC is pleased that the Evaluation Commission has confirmed Chicago’s readiness to host the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as its thorough planning and understanding of what is required to deliver a spectacular experience for the world’s top athletes.

“The USOC applauds Chicago 2016 and the City of Chicago for creating one of the strongest bids the United States has ever put forward. With a long-term vision that creates a sporting and cultural celebration in the heart of the city, Chicago truly puts the athletes first and leaves a sustainable legacy for Chicago, for America and for the worldwide Olympic Movement.

“We are particularly pleased that the Commission chose to note that ‘there has been significant involvement of the USOC and athletes in the planning of the project and its legacy aims,’ which not only reflects the strong partnership between the USOC and Chicago 2016, but also our commitment to the long-term interests of the Olympic Movement.

“In addition to the statement made earlier today by Chicago 2016 Chairman and CEO Pat Ryan, which we fully support, we have worked closely with the Chicago team to address the issues raised in the report, including:

• Our full support of and partnership with Chicago 2016 on a new Joint Marketing Programme Agreement (JMPA), which the IOC has confirmed fully meets its requirements

• The USOC’s support of and integration into the Chicago 2016 management structure under the leadership of Pat Ryan and his team. We believe this structure will provide unprecedented certainty and security for the IOC with the full support of the City of Chicago.

“From the early stages of the USOC’s domestic bid process, we have been absolutely determined to put forward a candidature which both reflects the current needs and requirements of the IOC, but also responds to the long-term interests of the Olympic Movement.

“We know there is more to do, and collaboratively, we will work with Chicago 2016 and the City of Chicago to support delivering the strongest possible bid which listens to and learns from the Commission’s invaluable feedback.”

– USOC Chairman Larry Probst
– USOC Acting CEO Stephanie Streeter
