PREPARATIONS BEGIN IN UTAH, TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE FOR MATCH: The U.S. Men’s National Team will face off against El Salvador at the new Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah, on Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. MT. Tickets are available through ussoccer.com, by phone at 801-727-2700 (Monday-Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and at the Rio Tinto Stadium ticket office (open Monday-Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.). On Thursday, Bob Bradley named a 24-man roster that will train ahead of the critical FIFA 2010 World Cup qualifiers against El Salvador and Trinidad & Tobago. The team began gathering in Utah yesterday, Aug. 30.  The U.S. currently sit third place in the final round hexagonal standings with 10 points and a 3-2-1 record through six games. Costa Rica are top of the table with 12 points, while Honduras, on 10 points, hold second place based on superior goal differential to the U.S. Television coverage of the match will be provided live by ESPN Classic and Galavision. RONGEN ANNOUNCES 21-MAN ROSTER FOR 2009 FIFA U-20 WORLD CUP: U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team head coach Thomas Rongen has finalized the 21-player roster that will represent the United States at the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup from Sept. 24-Oct. 16 in Egypt. The roster features a blend of professional and collegiate players, including two players with prior U-20 World Cup experience in UCLA goalkeeper Brian Perk and FC Dallas defender Anthony Wallace.

SUNDHAGE NAMES SQUAD FOR SEMPTEMBER TRAINING CAMP: U.S. Women’s National Team head coach Pia Sundhage has called in 26 players for a 12-day training camp at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., running from Sept. 21-Oct. 2. This will be the first U.S. Women’s National Team event since the end of the inaugural Women’s Professional Soccer season. Twenty-three of the players on the roster come from WPS clubs while three are currently seniors for their college teams in UCLA forward Lauren Cheney and a pair of North Carolina Tar Heels in midfielder Tobin Heath and goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris. Captain Christie Rampone will not be with the team as she is pregnant with her second child. Rampone, who led the Sky Blue FC out of New Jersey to the inaugural WPS championship last weekend, guided the team through the playoffs as the captain and the head coach while almost three months pregnant, adding another amazing twist to the club’s Cinderella run to the title.

D.C. UNITED SET TO FACE SEATTLE SOUNDERS ON WEDNESDAY IN U.S. OPEN CUP FINAL: Two MLS sides will meet to decide the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday, Sept. 2 at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. The Seattle Sounders will travel to the nation’s capital to meet D.C. United in the final of the oldest annual team tournament in the United States. D.C. United, who also won the Open Cup championship in the inaugural MLS season in 1996, are looking to defend their 2008 title against a Sounders side who are looking to become the second expansion team to take the title in its first year after the Chicago Fire accomplished that feat in 1998. CREDENTIAL APPLICATIONS NOW BEING ACCEPTED FOR FIFA U-20 AND U-17 WORLD CUPS: FIFA is accepting credential applications for both the FIFA U-20 and U-17 World Cups which will take place this fall in Egypt and Nigeria, respectively. Media who wish to attend either event must apply for credentials online through the FIFA Media Channel at http://media.FIFA.com. Media representatives who have not yet registered for the Media Channel can also do so at that address. Successful applicants will be notified and provided more information leading up to the tournament. The deadline for application for the FIFA U-20 World Cup is Aug. 31, and for the FIFA U-17 World Cup is Sept. 7. The FIFA Media Channel is the primary line of communication for news between FIFA, the local organizing committee of each FIFA competition and accredited media. This password-protected online service is designed to provide media professionals with details on activities, including press conferences, documents and other media resources, information on competition media facilities, including stadium media centers (SMCs), ticketing, FIFA and LOC media contacts, and any special media announcements. KICKERS CLAIM USL-2 CHAMPIONSHIP: After trailing for nearly an hour, the Richmond Kickers rallied in the second half with 63rd minute equalizer and two more in the final seven minutes to down the Charlotte Eagles 3-1 in the USL Second Division Championship. In their last two championship appearances last year in Cleveland and 2006 in Richmond, the Charlotte Eagles found no consolation in scoring a late goal in a 2-1 loss and were looking to reverse the script Saturday night at the University of Richmond Stadium in the rematch of the 2006 final.

PEAK PERFORMER: The Portland Timbers of the USL First Division pushed their record unbeaten streak to 24 games on Friday after playing to a scoreless draw against the Charleston Battery at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, S.C.
