JUDO: Senior World Championships Day 5 Results

Rotterdam, Netherlands August 26, 2009 to August 30, 2009

(Rotterdam, Netherlands) – Team USA was eliminated during the opening rounds of the final day of competition at the Senior World Championships.

Olympian Daniel McCormick (Wakefield, Mass. / NYAC / USA Judo National Team FORCE) and 2006 Junior World silver medalist Stanislav Bondarenko (UKR).were both scoreless in the first round of the +100kg division until Bondarenko armbarred McCormick for ippon (instant win) in the third minute of the match. 

Fighting up from 78kg, Nina Cutro-Kelly (San Antonio, Texas / Universal Judo) began her +78kg match with a first-minute penalty, but held off 2008 Olympic medalist Lucija Polavder (SLO) until Polavder threw Cutro-Kelly for ippon. 

Elmar Gasimov (AZE) threw Djamaldin Aliev (Greenwood Village, Colo. / USA Judo National Training Site at the Olympic Training Center / Boulder Judo Training Center) for a yuko (quarter-point) to take an early lead in their 100kg match.  Aliev was given two penalties which increased Gasimov’s lead to two yukos.  After Gasimov threw Aliev for a third yuko, he ended the match with a seoi nage (shoulder throw) for ippon.
