FFA Media Release: Pim Verbeek names Qantas Socceroos squad for Republic of Ireland match

Qantas Socceroos Head Coach Pim Verbeek has selected a 22-player squad for the upcoming international friendly match against the Republic of Ireland in Limerick on Wednesday 12th August 2009.

Oliver Bozanic, Aaron Mooy and Nikita Rukavytsya all receive their first ever call up to the Qantas Socceroos squad.

Returning to the Qantas Socceroos are goalkeeper Ante Covic, midfielder James Holland and defender Patrick Kisnorbo. Kisnorbo last appeared in the senior national team at the AFC Asian Cup 2007 against Iraq on the 13th July.

Dario Vidosic and Rhys Williams have also gained selection after making their successful Qantas Socceroo debuts against Japan at the MCG in June of this year.

This will be the second time the Qantas Socceroos have faced the Republic of Ireland. The previous occasion was on the 19th August 2003 when the Qantas Socceroos lost 1-2 at Lansdowne Road in Dublin.

The match will also be the first for the Qantas Socceroos since qualifying for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ after topping Group A of the 4th round of Asian qualifiers, ahead of Japan, Bahrain, Qatar and Uzbekistan.

All Qantas Socceroos matches are broadcast live and exclusive on FOX Sports.
