EUROPEAN MARATHON OPPORTUNITIES

UKA have released their marathon selection policy for next year’s European Athletics Championships in Barcelona, Spain.

The event will incorporate the team event; the European Marathon Cup. UKA has reviewed this level of championship competition and has created a selection policy that supports and encourages the participation of Great Britain and Northern Ireland men’s and women’s teams at this event.

The qualification standards are 2:18:00 for men and 2:38:00 for women. The official trial will be the Virgin London Marathon on Sunday 25th April 2010. The first three eligible UK athletes at the trial will be selected, provided they have achieved the standard within the qualification period which runs from 1st January 2009 until 25th April 2010.

UKA are able to select up to six men and six women for the European Marathon Cup, where three will score as part of the team. The full selection policy can be viewed here:
