2010 Organising Committee backs African Diaspora Forum and its " Youth African Soccer Cup "

In line with the 2010 FIFA World Cup Organising Committee South Africa’s (OC) objectives of  fair play and the fight against racism , the  OC supports the African Diaspora Forum (ADF) and its “Youth African Soccer  Cup” as part of its legacy projects.
 
The ADF is a non profit organisation representing African migrant communities living in South Africa. Currently 22 African countries are represented on the ADF: Angola, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Congo Brazzaville, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Malawi, Morocco, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
 
The OC and the ADF  will hold a press conference to provide more information on this ADF initiative  and  the “Youth African Soccer  Cup” 
 on Monday 25 May 2009, which coincides  with  Africa Day.

The ADF will next week host the “Youth African Soccer Cup” – a tournament which as a pilot will see 20 schools from the east of Johannesburg representing an African country, participating in football, but also learning about the language, culture, history and football of the countries they represent.
 
The tournament addresses some of the OC’s core objectives such as actively fighting xenophobia and promoting an integrated society ,   investing in the youth, its education, its future and contributing to nation building  as well as   spreading information and knowledge about football in general and the FIFA Confederations 2009 and 2010 FIFA World Cup™.
 
The tournament will be held at the Jeppe Girls High School, 160 Lynx Street (Off Commissioner Street), Kensington, Johannesburg East from 14h00 on Monday 25 May 2009.
