Story Lead: Baseball turns to Europe for 2016 and updates on the sports vote
Great interview or feature opportunity on the IBAF campaign’s latest developments – crucial update on the situation with the 2016 bid sports for the Olympic Programme
Dr. Harvey Schiller just returned from a two stop trip to Europe to meet with the Confederation of European Baseball and check in at the IOC to stay on top of the procedure for the sports vying for a place on the 2016 Olympic programme. He also got some crucial insight on new facts regarding the IOC’s decision to put forward recommended sports for the actual voting process. Seven sports are up for positions on the 2016 programme (Baseball, Golf, Karate, Roller sports, Rugby, Softball, & Squash).
Dr. Schiller said: “I stopped in at the IOC to make sure we knew all the arrangements for when the seven candidate sports go before the IOC executive board – so we could understand the timing and the material we can distribute.” And the IBAF has now decided to fortify their bid with women’s competition and the idea has been met with worldwide positive support. This makes a good feature story or interview both for the growth of the sport and the development in Europe and in view of the 2016 campaign. Plus the World Cup is being held throughout Europe in September. Schiller compares baseball’s growth “second only to soccer” which is a notable achievement.
