U.S. National Sled Hockey Team Falls to Canada, 2-1

Team USA Falls in Final Minutes of Third Period

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The U.S. National Sled Hockey Team fell to Canada, 2-1, here tonight at the ESL Centre. Canada scored the game-winner with 3:08 left in the game to complete the comeback.
\“We played a very smart game and didn\‘t give them many opportunities,\” said Team USA Head Coach Ray Maluta. \“Unfortunately, we didn\‘t come out with the victory, but I think this is a good learning experience that will bring some more maturity to this team and benefit us in future games.\”
After a scoreless opening period, Brad Emmerson (Amherst, N.Y.) gave Team USA the game\‘s first lead at 8:54 of the second stanza. Emmerson rifled a shot over Canadian goaltender Paul Rosen\‘s left shoulder from just above the face-off circle to put the U.S. up, 1-0.
Canada tied the game 3:50 into the third frame off a deflection in front of U.S. netminder Steve Cash (Overland, Mo.). Billy Bridges was credited with his second goal of the game at 11:52 when the puck deflected off of an American stick and past Cash, to account for the 2-1 final.
