The city of Lindale, Texas will be the host community and title sponsor of Super Ride VII: the 2009 United States Equestrian Drill Championship, scheduled for June 24 - 27, at the Texas Rose Horse Park.
Part of the Tyler, Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area, Lindale is located in Smith County, Texas.
Known from the 1950’s as the “Blueberry Capitol of the World”, Lindale has in recent years experienced a surge in residential, retail, and other commercial development. Lindale is one of the fastest growing communities in East Texas.
The area of Smith County where Lindale is located was inhabited long before the town was founded in 1871. In the early 1800s, the Caddo were the area’s prime inhabitants; their artifacts can still be found along streams in the area. The region was also home to Cherokee people, who were forcibly removed during the so-called “Cherokee War of 1839” - the culmination of friction in Northeast Texas between the Cherokee, Kickapoo, and Shawnee peoples and the white settlers.
Lindale is home to popular country singer, Miranda Lambert, entertainer Casey Rivers and former major league baseball pitcher Pat Mahomes.
“The USEDC Board of Directors is thrilled to have Lindale as the host City and Title Sponsor. The continued growth of the event has led us to the Texas Rose Horse Park. The City of Lindale offers the needed hotels and support facilities that the National Championship requires”, says Gary Bonner, director of the Super Ride. “Spectators from throughout the United States and into Canada will attend the event.”
“This year presents unique opportunities for competitors and attendees in Lindale such as the great candy shop, the Miranda Lambert Store and many other places to see and visit. Lindale and the Chamber of Commerce have teamed up with us to present ‘the best of the best’ in 4 days of glitz, glamor and good old fashioned horsemanship.”
“First time attendees will be wowed by the great music used by our teams and by the suburb riding skills of our competitors – from the very young to the seasoned equestrians. This year, our Challenged riders return to competition”, says Bonner.
The United States Equestrian Drill Championship brings together mounted color guard and drill team units from throughout the United States.
The 2009 event will feature the Second USEDC Ride of Champions on Friday evening, June 26th, and the USEDC National Open Drill Championship on Saturday evening, June 27th . A performance by the 2009 USEDC Youth All Star Team will showcase the skills of young riders from across the nation during the Saturday evening performance.
The USEDC Ride of Champions is open to USEDC Open Division National Champions, Reserve Champions and Second Runners-up from previous Super Ride competitions. The winning team will be awarded the prestigious SportsQuest Cup – a perpetual trophy symbolic of excellence in all facets of equitation and drill team competition.
On Friday evening June 26, a special screening of “The Spirit of Aachen”, a documentary for television, will be held in the VIP area, above the main arena – immediately following the 2009 USEDC Ride of Champions (at approximately 8:00 pm.).
The one-hour program presents a compelling look at the annual CHIO Aachen – World Equestrian Festival in Germany. Aachen has been a major fixture on the international equestrian calendar for over one hundred years.
General Admission to the video screening is $10.00. A limited number of complimentary ‘Early Bird’ passes are available on-line, on a first come first served basis. Please visit: http://www.eventbrite.com/org/149951363?s=1
In 2008, both the USEDC National Open Drill Championship and the SportsQuest Cup were captured by the 2007 and 2008 National Champion Canadian Valley Rangerettes of Mustang, Oklahoma.
Full details on the competition, sponsorship and merchandising opportunities are available upon request. Kindly contact the United States Equestrian Drill Championship on 1-972-679-0770 or 1-214-502-8762.
