LOS ANGELES – March 10, 2009 – Lindsey Vonn is poised to make history this week by becoming the first American woman to win the overall World Cup title twice. Four events and only a few points stand between her and the overall title as Universal Sports presents more than 15 hours of coverage of the 2009 FIS Alpine World Cup Finals from Are, Sweden starting Wednesday.
COVERAGE ON UNIVERSAL SPORTS: Coverage begins with women\‘s downhill finals featuring Vonn on Wednesday at 9 a.m. ET followed by the men\‘s downhill finals at 12 p.m. ET. Coverage continues on Thursday at 10 a.m. ET with men\‘s Super G finals and women\‘s Super G finals at 1 p.m. ET.

U.S. WOMEN: Lindsey Vonn is on her way to becoming the first American woman to win back-to-back overall World Cup titles. Maria Riesch, who is currently in second place overall, stands 369 points behind Vonn. Vonn has already won her second consecutive Women\‘s Downhill title, joining her childhood idol Picabo Street as the only American women to accomplish this feat. It\‘s been a stellar year for Vonn, who has captured 19 World Cup medals - the most by any American woman in history.
U.S. MEN: U.S. skier Ted Ligety has a chance to win a medal in Are. He is currently third in the men\‘s giant slalom standings, trailing Benjamin Raich of Austria and Didier Cuche of Switzerland.
