Unprecedented economic legacy for the Krasnodar Region outlined at MIPIM
March 10, 2009, Moscow, Russia – Dmitry Kozak, the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia whose responsibility includes the delivery of Sochi 2014 and the associated regional transformation, today told an audience at MIPIM – the international real estate conference – of the impressive investment opportunities in the Krasnodar Region.
Whilst speaking at the major international real estate event, Mr. Kozak shared with delegates the Russian Government’s commitment to ensure that Sochi 2014 leaves a legacy of sustainable economic development for the entire region. He highlighted that this will be achieved through the development of state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities that will lead to a boost in the region’s economy.
Mr. Kozak led a high-profile delegation to MIPIM, which included representatives of all organizations responsible for the delivery of Sochi 2014 and the associated regional transformation. The delegation included Dmitry Chernyshenko, President and CEO of Sochi 2014; Alexander Tkachev, Governor of the Krasnodar Region; and Victor Kolodyazhny, President of the Olympstroy State Corporation.
The Sochi 2014 delegation presented a range of potential investment opportunities on offer in a variety of sectors. These opportunities include tourism developments, such as the 5 star Maly Akhun Hotel Complex and developments within the Gornaya Karusel tourist resort; energy developments, including the Kudepsta Thermal Power Station; and sports venues, like the Main Olympic Village and the Large Ice Hockey Arena.
Dmitry Kozak, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, said:
“The Russian Government is committed to ensuring that developments associated with Sochi 2014 and the related regional transformation are commercially successful. The real estate investment opportunities we have shown delegates at MIPIM can be adjusted to meet the needs of international investors. This will allow development partners to contribute their expert knowledge and ensure that each project offers an excellent commercial opportunity before, during and after Sochi 2014.
“At MIPIM, we have discussed the incredible, varied investment opportunities that Sochi 2014 and the associated transformation of the Krasnodar Region have to offer. This development is a national priority project and I am personally committed to ensuring that it leaves a tangible economic legacy for the Krasnodar Region and the whole of Russia.”
Dmitry Chernyshenko, President and CEO of Sochi 2014, told the conference of the Organizing Committee’s plans to leave a sustainable legacy from Sochi 2014 through the implementation of the “Sochi – Home City” program. This involves a comprehensive redevelopment of many aspects of life in Sochi to ensure Russia’s first Winter Games brings continuing benefits long after 2014.
Mr Chernyshenko told delegates that the “Sochi – Home City” program will enhance the real estate opportunities available in the Krasnodar Region. This will be achieved through a variety of projects including implementing Sochi 2014’s Olympic Transport Plan, which will ensure that Sochi operates a fully integrated transport system, and the development of environmental and waste management projects that will ensure Sochi and the Krasnodar Region operate policies of environmental best practice.
In addition, Sochi 2014 is also developing the Sochi Olympic Business Club. This will be a group of senior officials from businesses located in Krasnodar Region. Members of the Business Club will be informed of and consulted on major Sochi 2014 developments to ensure that the needs of private business is fully incorporated into the delivery of Russia’s first Winter Games.
Dmitry Chernyshenko, President and CEO of Sochi 2014, said:
“The preparations to stage Russia’s first Winter Games will accelerate and boost the economic development of the Krasnodar Region. To facilitate this economic development, Sochi 2014 developed the ‘Sochi – Home City’ Program’ – this program will ensure that Sochi meets the highest international standards in a wide variety of areas.”
