More Firsts for Valerie - IAAF Online Diaries

Olympic champion Valerie Vili continues her winning streak with her latest victory in Sydney as she collects yet another national honour...

“Hi All,

“Well, since my my last entry to my online diary I have picked up the Supreme Halberg Award and Halberg Sportswomen of the year for the second year running. I am the first woman in New Zealand sporting history to ever do that! (The Halberg Awards honour sporting excellence by New Zealanders and are acknowledged as the official New Zealand Sports Awards.)

“When I heard my name announced as winner of the Supreme award I was so happy, but also surprised, as I knew we (New Zealand) had a lot of success this year at the Olympics and the line up of winners from the other categories (Sportsman, Sports Team) was pretty impressive.  I was honoured to be chosen and felt very humble to receive this award as it was the icing on the cake for 2008.
