Trinidad and Tobago Rugby Football chosen to pilot new Rugby 7s coaching course

Rugby is one of the sports vying for a place on the 2016 Olympic Programme

The Trinidad and Tobago Rugby Football union has been chosen as the site to pilot the new IRB Coaching Sevens Level 1 course on March 21st and 22nd, 2008 in Port of Spain.

The course will be delivered by Mike Luke, IRB Regional Training Coordinator, Tom Jones, IRB Regional General Manager, Scott Harland, NAWIRA RDO and IRB Trainer, and David Mays, IRB Coach Educator.
Participants will review the basic elements of attack and defense in sevens rugby and how to develop strategies and practice sessions that best suit their players.

No previous coaching certification is required to attend the course, though it should be noted that the course material is stand-alone and does not encompass important elements of the IRB Level 1 Coaching course (Introducing Rugby), such as risk management and ethics.

As this is a pilot course there is a limit to the number of participants (15). As a result, only five spots at the course available for coaches from outside of Trinidad  and Tobago.
