Nominations Open for 2009 Paralympic Awards

The Paralympic Sport Awards will be awarded in five categories

Bonn, Germany - In 2009, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) will for the third time be honouring members of the Paralympic Family and those who contribute directly to Paralympic Games and the Paralympic Movement with Paralympic Awards, which are proudly partnered by IPC\‘s Gold Patron Allianz.

The Paralympic Sport Awards will be awarded in five categories based on performance at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games:

Best Male Athlete
Best Female Athlete
Best Team Performance
Best Paralympic Games Debut
Exemplary Paralympic Games Official

All IPC members are eligible to submit nominations for these awards.

The Paralympic Media Awards will honour extraordinary media coverage of an athlete or team during the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games and will be given to media representatives that presented the highest quality and most dynamic coverage of the Games in one of four categories:

Broadcast
Written (print and online)
Photo
Radio

All entry nominations must pertain to the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games period. All IPC members and members of the public/media are eligible to submit nominations for these awards.

The Paralympic Scientific Award will recognize one outstanding contributor (academic or scientific) to the field of sport for people with a disability. To be eligible for this award, nominees must fulfil the following criteria:

- Contribution through significant scientific publications related to the critical aspects of sport for people with a disability in any discipline
- National and/or international recognition of their work
- Specific emphasis on the practical application of research with direct or indirect benefit to the IPC.

All IPC members and members of the public/academia are eligible to submit nominations for this award.

Nominations for these awards are now being accepted and will continue until 10 April 2009. Three Award Committees composed of members of the Paralympic Family and specialists in the relevant areas will select the winners which will be announced at the IPC 2009 General Assembly to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in November 2009.
