CHICAGO 2016 ANNOUNCES ADDITIONS TO BID LEADERSHIP TEAM

Corporate Advisor Kurt Summers appointed Chief of Staff to President; Former Chicago Planning Commissioner Arnold Randall named Director of Neighborhood Legacies

CHICAGO (February 4, 2009) – Chicago 2016 announced today two key appointments to the bid committee’s leadership team.  Kurt Summers has been named chief of staff to President Lori Healey, and Arnold Randall has been named Director of Neighborhood Legacies.

“Kurt and Arnold both bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our organization, and we welcome them to the team,” said Patrick G. Ryan, chairman and CEO of Chicago 2016.  “We look forward to working with them in these vital months prior to the decision of Host City for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

As chief of staff, Summers will serve as a senior counselor across a range of bid-related activities.  Summers comes to Chicago 2016 with significant strategic, financial and operational experience having worked for Goldman Sachs in investment banking and McKinsey & Company as a strategy consultant.  In addition, Summers served as a Dunn Fellow for the State of Illinois where his focus included management, procurement and legislative issues.  He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BS in Finance and International Business from Washington University in St. Louis.  Summers and his wife reside near Washington Park, the intended site for the Olympic Stadium and Aquatics competition venues.

Arnold Randall will serve as Director of Neighborhood Legacies at Chicago 2016.  In this role, Randall will serve as the liaison between Chicago 2016 and the communities around Chicagoland in ensuring the appropriate Games legacies and development.  Previously, he served as Commissioner of the Department of Planning and Development, overseeing the city’s residential, commercial and industrial economic development strategies.  Prior to that, he served as the Mayor’s Deputy Chief of Staff for Economic Development.

Randall joined the Chicago Park District in 1995 and served in various capacities including Director of Planning and Development, Southeast Region Manager, and Director of Intergovernmental Affairs.  Prior to joining the City of Chicago, Randall worked with the Chicago Urban League.  He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Illinois at Chicago.  Randall is a resident of Chicago’s Woodlawn neighborhood.
