Meeting of the FIFA Executive Committee in Tokyo - Protection of minors and FIFA competitions on the agenda

The FIFA Executive Committee, chaired by President Blatter, will convene in Tokyo on Friday and Saturday, 19-20 December 2008, for its fourth and final meeting of the year. The agenda features a wide range of topics, including discussions on the FIFA competitions that have taken place in 2008 and those to come in the future, as well as the protection of minors and the pending cases related to member associations.

Following the draw for the FIFA Confederations Cup 2009 and the LOC board meeting on 25 and 26 November, the FIFA executive will be given an update on the current status of preparations for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ in South Africa.

In addition, the members will receive an update on the preparations for the FIFA U-17 World Cup Nigeria 2009. The eligibility criteria for the men’s Olympic Football Tournament will also be analysed, and the bidding procedure for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups™ will be finalised.

There will be reports on the U-17 and U-20 Women’s World Cups in New Zealand and Chile, respectively, and the FIFA Club World Cup in Japan will also be reviewed.

Information will be provided on the various standing committee meetings that have taken place since the October meeting of the FIFA Executive Committee.

Finally, a number of legal and sports political matters have also been tabled, such as those relating to member associations, including a review of all pending cases and reports on the FIFA transfer matching system, the regulations for the protection of minors, and the 6+5 resolution adopted by the FIFA Congress.

Note to editors: a press conference will be held at the Westin hotel in Tokyo at 15:00 local time on 20 December following the second meeting day of the FIFA Executive Committee.
