10 MERIT AWARDS GIVEN OUT FOR SINGAPORE 2010 LOGO DESIGN COMPETITION

The final logo and the brand identity will be unveiled next year.

Singapore, 9 December 2008 - A total of 10 merit awards were given out to the top five entries in the 18-and-Under Category for participants aged 18 years and below, and the top five entries in the Open Category of the Singapore 2010 Logo Design Competition today.

2. Launched in July this year, the Singapore 2010 Logo Design Competition received a total of 1,856 entries from 44 different countries. Participants were encouraged to come up with an original and creative design that embodies a youthful spirit, the values of Olympism, and the Singaporean identity. The ease of application and reproduction of the logo designs was also taken into consideration.

3. The competition had provided a great opportunity to get Singaporeans and the international community involved in the run up to Singapore 2010. The variety of designs received demonstrates the dynamism of ideas and the different visions of what people around the world think the logo should look like.

4. With the help of a panel of 13 judges from the creative and sports industries, the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC) selected 10 merit award designs from the entries received.

The 10 merit award recipients are:
18-and-Under Category
Name Age Nationality
Celeste Phua Zi Jin 16 Singaporean
Eleanor Lai 18 Singaporean
Jeroel Leyble 18 Singaporean
Lau Jia Kang 18 Singaporean
Tong Jun Yan 16 Singaporean

Open Category
Name Age Nationality
Berwin See Hak Gei 47 Singaporean
Cho Chung Man 26 Singaporean
Huang Mao Song 32 Chinese
Iffah Dahiyah Bte Poniman 20 Singaporean
Jack Png Nguang Weng 47 Singaporean

5. The award recipients received their prizes from Mr Goh Kee Nguan, Chief Executive Officer of SYOGOC, at a prize presentation ceremony at SYOGOC.
Each of them received a pair of tickets to the Singapore 2010 Opening and Closing Ceremonies, and a $200 Samsung voucher (sponsored by Samsung).
The merit award designs and short-listed entries are available for viewing on the Singapore 2010 website (http://www.singapore2010.sg).

6. SYOGOC would like to thank all participants for their contributions in the logo competition and to our judges for their hard work and support. While the competition saw many refreshing designs, an overall best design would not be
awarded as there was no single design that could capture the elements representative of the official logo.

7. To ensure that the eventual logo will be aligned with the overall brand identity for Singapore 2010, the finalisation of the logo was included in the scope of work of the professional creative companies that were earlier invited to
develop the overall Singapore 2010 brand identity. The appointed company will be tasked to refine the ideas from the logo competition and ensure that the final logo captures the elements representative of Singapore 2010 and its brand
identity. The final logo and the brand identity will be unveiled next year.
