FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MODERN PENTATHLON CONGRESS 2008

The shoot and run disciplines will be competed consecutively, after the fence, swim and ride disciplines.

Guatemala, 24 November 2008 – Further to the press release issued 22 November following the
UIPM Congress to adopt the combined event, UIPM wishes to clarify that the “combined event” means
that the shoot and run disciplines will be competed consecutively, after the fence, swim and ride
disciplines. This differs from the current format competed in the order - shoot, fence, swim, ride and
run. The objective of combining these two disciplines is to shorten the competition day and provide a
more competitive finale. The “combined event” is not a stand alone summer biathlon, nor disregards the
other three disciplines in the modern pentathlon. The combined shoot/run following the other three
disciplines will be introduced as the competition format from 1 January 2009.

If further information is required on the “combined event” please contact UIPM Headquarters on the
contacts listed below.
