MODERN PENTATHLON CONGRESS 2008 Update

The combined event (shoot/run) will be the new competition format for modern pentathlon.

Guatemala, 22 November 2008, 23:00 – The Member Federations of Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) have voted in favour of the combined event by a two third majority. This means the combined event (shoot/run) will be the new competition format for modern pentathlon commencing 1 January 2009.

Following elections earlier in the day, the Congress then addressed the motions proposed by the UIPM and National Federations. The first motion was the proposed combined event. This competition format combines the shoot and the run disciplines. Following lengthy discussion by both UIPM officials and National Federation delegations, the members voted with a two-third majority (32 in favour/13 against/1 abstain/1 invalid).

Other motions adopted included amendments in the riding rules, master rules and disciplinary rules (adoption of changes to WADA Code for compliance).
